"BEE" the Difference! was Governor John Boltz's theme this past year. He handed out "bee" pins at the Nebraska-Iowa District Kiwanis Convention held at the Graduate Hotel in Lincoln, August 1 & 2. Nebraska was well represented with 10 Capital City Kiwanis Club members attending. Pictured above: (Front row) Marilyn Scheinost & Sandy Scheinost; (Back row) Steve Scheinost, Mindy Vyhnalek, Al Vyhnalek, Kathy Cue, Lori Teaford, Dave Boeckner, Lloyd Bell, and Linda Boeckner.
It was Al & Mindy Vyhnalek's first convention! Members of Capital City Kiwanis prepared and distributed the registration packets for the event. We got to see Lori Teaford be installed as Lt. Governor of our division (taking over after Dave Boeckner's term ends in September). Our SLP clubs both received Distinguished Service Awards for their hard work last year. And there were many other highlights.....like the trivia game that generated LOTS of mac and cheese for local food banks and the great speakers and the gift basket raffle and the great fellowship and the rock painting and....it was just a wonderful convention!

GIRLS AND BOYS STATE
REPORTS
The Capital City Kiwanis Club has sponsored an applicant to the annual Boys & Girls State programs for many years. Many of our own members were even past participants at the Boys or Girls State events when they were in high school.
At the August 5th meeting Capital City Kiwanis members got the chance to meet the students we sponsored for the annual Boys and Girls State Program this summer. Bethany Budell was our choice for the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State. She is a senior at Lincoln Pius X and is planning to pursue a career in psychology and/or law. Evan Spatz was our choice for the American Legion Boys State. He is a senior at Lincoln East and is interested in becoming a small animal veterinarian. Both recipients were very appreciative to Capital City for the opportunity to learn about how our state government works and to meet other students from around the state.
STOCKING UP SPARTAN VILLAGE AT EAST HIGH
At the beginning of the 2024-2025 budget year the YCPO Committee designated $200 to purchase priority items for Lincoln East High School's Spartan Village and Pantry. Marilyn Scheinost received the "items needed" list from Tami Rembolt, East High Social Worker, which included snacks (granola bars, fruit snacks, breakfast bars, Rice Krispie bars, etc.), macaroni and cheese cups, soup in a cup, canned fruit, tall white socks, and men's and women's deodorant. Marilyn Scheinost, Mindy Vyhnalek and Cheryl Ross purchased the items requested and filled the trunk of Marilyn's car so Marilyn could deliver the items to East High Social Workers Tami Rembolt and Danielle Swanson on August 25th.
