The 2026 Capital City Scholarships were awarded to....L to R; Izabella Thornburg the Gwen & Al Farmer scholarship; Julianne Tvrdy the Beverly Carlson scholarship; Frances Nebel the CCK Foundation scholarship; Jolene Ng the CCK Foundation scholarship, and Edysen Dolezal the Bob and Dottie Orshek scholarship. Each scholarship is worth $1200 and will be sent to the Nebraska college of their choice. We wish all of the recipients well with their continuing education plans and invite them to return for a visit and update.
2026 COMBINED SHOWERS
Capital City Kiwanis has supported Head Start and The Market for many years. CCK members recognize that when families and young children have the support they need, communities benefit with healthier families. Knowing that today's youngest children will be the workforce of the future, CCK/YCPO will be hosting a June 2, 2026 Combined Shower for Head Start and The Market/LMEP. Diapers, baby wipes, and diaper cream may not seem like a "big deal", but they help Head Start and The Market stretch their resources to shape the future of Lincoln's low-income families. Eight afghans, hand made by Julie Albrecht, were a special contribution to this year's shower.
APRIL-MAY EAST HIGH
KEY CLUB ACTIVITIES
April and May brought year end activities to East High Key Club. Members delivered the remaining 400 of the 600 hygiene bags that they had put together earlier in the year, made another 31 dog toys bringing the year’s total to 203, and decorated and delivered another 83 Meals on Wheels bags bringing the year’s total to 942. In additional a total of four members worked baseball concessions alongside Capital City Kiwanis members at two different baseball games. Candidates for officers and class representatives presented their platforms and were interviewed by current officers, district administrators, and Kiwanis advisor. Voting by members was concluded in April and the year-end celebration was held on April 27th. Refreshments (including pizza) were served, accomplishments of the year were shared, awards for exemplary service were given to several members, 2025-2026 officers and class reps were retired, and new officers and class reps for 2026-2027 were installed. On May 18 former officers and newly elected officers met to share duties, resources and suggestions for making next year another successful Key Club year.
Also, at this meeting, Tracey Domgard presented$500 NE-IA District Scholarships to seniors Sophia Wang and Hailey Tran. Jolene Ng, who was unable to attend the meeting, also received a $500 District Scholarship.
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SEASON WITH THE UNL BASEBALL CONCESSION STAND
We had a very good year with our fund raising efforts working the UNL baseball concession stand. The early games were cold and had low attendance. But by the end of the season the Huskers were doing very well and the weather was good. CCK members worked a total of 447 hours and the East High Key Club worked 80 hours. The Key Club was a great help in making sure we always had 8 total staff working the stand. We earned a total of $15,518 for the season, which is the most yet for the years we have been working the concession stand.
