FOOD FORT BUS UPDATE

Members of Capital City Kiwanis Club & Foundation delivered a donation check of $5000 to the Food Fort in Lincoln on February 3rd. This donation puts the Food Fort at $26,000, which is over half way to its goal of $42,000 so they can replace their current bus which is not been very reliable and needs to be retired. The “bus” is the symbol of their outreach program which brings a meal, some mentorship, and other services to some underserved neighborhoods in Lincoln.
The donation was presented to Michaela Akridge, CEO, and Mason Keim, Fundraising Director, by CCK Foundation President and Division 20 Lt Governor, Dave Boeckner, and Sandy Scheinost, CCK Foundation Treasurer located at their Lincoln office.

CAPITAL CITY KIWANIS CLUB PRSENTS CHECK TO THE LINCOLN PARKS FOUNDATION

The Capital City Kiwanis Club presented a check for $3000 to the Lincoln Parks Foundation for the updating of the Mahoney Inclusive Playground in Lincoln.  The money will be used to build a portion of the playground designated as the “Nature Area”.  A marker will be placed near the area with our club name as a contributor to the development of the playground.
Pictured are, L to R, Joe James, Marilyn Scheinost, Al Vyhnalek, Dave Boeckner, and Randy Gordon, Executive Director of the Foundation.

SEWING FOR BABIES

Sewing for Babies reached out to CCK regarding their need for infant knit caps to include in the layettes they provide.  56 caps were purchased before local Dollar Tree stores indicated they would no longer be available.  When Sewing for Babies said they could sew caps themselves if they had fabric, the YCPO Committee hosted 4 Infant Caps Knit Fabric Drives throughout January and February.  The result of the drives was a whopping donation of $250 dollars to purchase fabric, plus 3 additional infant caps.  55 pairs of socks were also donated by CCK members who find infant socks simply irresistible.

K-KIDS FEBRUARY ACTIVITIES

At the February K-Kids meeting, 11 East High Key Club members joined the group to help make valentines for senior citizens.   Together they made over 50 valentines which will be delivered to the residents of Savannah Pines by the Key Club members.   The K-Kids really enjoyed being able to visit with the Key Club members and ask them all kinds of questions!

FEBRUARY KEY CLUB ACTIVITIES

Valentines! Valentines! Blankets!  Those words summarize much of Lincoln East Key Club’s activities in February.  Members made valentines the first two meetings in February for delivery to residents at Savannah Pines in Lincoln.  Key Club members were able to achieve their objective of having enough valentines for every resident at Savannah Pines with help from Pyrtle K-Kids.   On February 11, 12 Key Club members joined the Pyrtle K-Kids meeting where they assisted the K-Kids in making these valentines.  Key club members continued to work on their blanket project with some members checking out fleece to tie blankets at home.  Two members even planned a blanket making party with friends!   Completed blanket count to date—86!!!
Other major activities in February centered on making plans for participation in NE-IA District Convention (DCON) which will be held in March in Omaha.  A record of 17 Key Club members have registered to attend.
