FOSTER CARE CLOSET
Volunteering at the September 22 Foster Care Closet was a mixture of work and lively discussion. The group received instructions from Jennifer Olson, Foster Care Closet Warehouse Manager, then decided how to tackle the task.....sorting colorful no-show girls' socks. Once the process was decided on the group of 7 volunteers (Linda Boeckner, Sandi Lewis, Marilyn Napier, Marilyn Scheinost, Sandy Scheinost, Mindy Vyhnalek and Cheryl Ross) sorted 7 pairs of socks into 68 labeled, tagged and scanned bags. Time passed quickly as this energetic group discussed targeting at football games, Hail Mary passes, back-to-back volleyball wins, the movie Wicked, flying monkeys, and favorite authors and more while completing a project the Foster Care Closet needed help with.

NEW YEAR FOR K-Kids
A new year has begun for the Pyrtle Elementary K-Kds! Their first meeting on September 23was great even though their trash pick up service project was postponed to a later date due to the weather. So they worked on posters for the October Red Ribbon Campaign at their school and worked on getting ready for the club officer elections at the next meeting.

This artwork was displayed at the first parent-teacher conferences for Bryan Community School September 10. This exhibit was viewed by parents, teachers, staff and several of student artists who proudly showed their art to their parents. EAST HIGH KEY CLUB ACTIVITIES
Our East High Key Club officers and members have been busy! The officers met to begin planning for the school year and helped organize Spartan Village before school started. Since then, they continue to help clear out old inventory and sort new items at the Village as they work on collecting member applications which include parent permission forms.
Service activities members have completed in August & September: five served food at People City Mission; six worked at the People City Mission Help Center; and 56 members signed up to help Huskers Helping the Homeless prior to the football game with Michigan. (They helped Matt Talbot raise over $21,300 which was $19,500 more than last year!) And they have decorated 243 brown paper bags for Meals on Wheels.
On September 29 members welcomed Lori Teaford, long-time volunteer and former manager of MOW. Lori provided information on the MOW such as who could receive meals, costs, volunteers etc. She also emphasized to the members how appreciative MOW recipients were of getting their meals in decorated vs plain brown paper bags.

LAST PARK CLEAN-UP?
Eleven Capital City members participated on September 27 in clean up at Seng Park in Lincoln. Trash was pretty light so it didn't take long for the group to get the job done and go off to breakfast of on to the rest of their day. This may have been the last clean-up for the season with the weather and park usage changing.
