UNL CONCESSION STAND HAS ANOTHER VERY SUCCESSFUL YEAR

The Capital City Kiwanis Club has completed another good fund raising year at the Dogs concession stand.  CCK members worked 13 UNL baseball games plus one Saltdogs game for the LPS 5th graders.  This year's LPS Day at Haymarket Park seemed louder than usual but everyone was excited and having a great time.  2025 is turning out to be our best year yet, earning $13,731.74 so far, with our last game yet to be included.  Twelve CCK members worked a total of 557.25 hours.  Marilyn Scheinost wins the award for most hours worked because she did all but one game for a total of 67.5 hours!

CONVENTION PLANS

The 2025 NE-IA District Convention is in Lincoln this year!!   It will be a the Graduate Hotel in the downtown Haymarket area on August 1st and 2nd.     The plans are starting to come together for some educational and entertaining opportunities.    The big service project involves attendees bringing LOTS of boxes of Mac’N Cheese……for a fun community activity!   And there is always the silent auction for fabulous gift baskets and boxes…..with the right ticket!   Many breakout sessions, and interesting keynote speakers!    Registration information will be sent out soon.

Capital City Kiwanis members will get some firsthand experience with the registration table and the handouts for attendees.   We will need members to help stuff the envelopes with the meal tickets, convention badges, lanyards, and other important items on Thursday and Friday.   And then we will need to have members run the registration table for several hours Friday and early Saturday.   Be watching for more information and sign up for this convention project.

YEAR END KEY CLUB ACTIVITIES

And that’s a wrap!  Lincoln East Key Club completed a very successful Key Club year.  In April a year-end celebration was held with awards given to outstanding members in several different categories—from best attendance, most events attended, most positive, rising star, distinguished officer and many more—there were so many involved members this year.  This year’s officers and class representatives were thanked for their contributions and new officers and reps were installed for next year.
This past year, members tied and delivered a total of 125 fleece blankets to CHI Health St. Elizabeth, Peoples City Mission Help Center and Cedars Home for Children.  Also, a total of 640 decorated bags were delivered to Meals on Wheels. And Sarah Cai, the 2024-25 President, was honored with a $500 scholarship from NE-IA Key Club District.

In May club members also completed a service project started as a district wide Key Club project at DCON.  The service project involved putting together hygiene bags for the Chandrans Yuva Foundation  and the East High Key Club purchased the remainding items and filled the rest of the bags.
