VALENTINES & SCARVES
It was a fun day at the Pyrtle K-Kids meeting in February. 24 East High Key Club members came to help the 22 K-Kids make valentine cards for seniors and fringed 41 fleece scarves for kids at the F Street Recreation Center. The Key Club members will deliver the 58 cards made along with the cards made by their own club to seniors at local senior facilities and homes. The scarves will be delivered by the K-Kids officers.
EAST HIGH KEY CLUB ACTIVITIES
Three club meetings were held in February with members making valentines the first two meetings. Sixty-five valentines plus the 58 valentines made jointly at the Pyrtle K-Kids meeting for a total of 123 valentines were delivered to the Savannah Pines. Retirement Community in Lincoln on February 13th. Additional Meals on Wheels bags were decorated bringing the total number for the year to 815 bags. Also, officers and class reps worked on double checking the contents of the hygiene bags from January and adding decorative positive statement cards created by St. John’s Builder’s club and students from Pyrtle Elementary. Two hundred of the 600 bags were delivered to Peoples City Mission on February 14th. Spartan Village required more attention this month so members spent time sorting and organizing items there. Three Key Clubbers attended two different meetings of our own Capital City Kiwanis. Getting members registered for DCON next month and working on the annual achievement report and award applications were other activities
SEWING FOR BABIES
TINY HUMAN SHINDIG
CCK's Tiny Human Shindig donations for Sewing for Babies were delivered February 24, 2026. The drive, sponsored by the YCPO Committee, was held January 20, January 27, and February 3 to fill a need for girls' socks and onesies. Girls' socks (birth to 3 months) and long-sleeved onesies (birth to 3 months) plus cash donations filled the basket and donation box all three dates. Ross Bettenhausen and Cheryl Ross delivered 52 pairs of girls socks and 63 long-sleeved onesies to the appreciative group of ladies working that day
FOSTER CARE CLOSET SERVICE EVENT
Volunteers for CCK's Foster Care Closet service events are always curious about what each month's activity will be. Activities have ranged from sorting/labeling underwear, packaging socks, sorting pajamas, etc. The task February 2 was folding and bagging ladies' shirts. A group of 6 volunteers (Sandi Lewis, Marilyn Scheinost, Marilyn Napier, Sandy Scheinost, Mindy Vyhnalek and Cheryl Ross) filled bags of shirts for two hours. Even though we accomplished a lot during that time, the group enjoyed lively discussions about family events, Nebraska sports, and the upcoming Winter Olympics. An interesting highlight is that CCK's first Foster Care Closet service event was March 10, 2025.
Capital City Kiwanians had a great time on Tuesday, February 24. There were 13 members who met up with 3 East High Key Clubbers at the roller skating museum for a private tour of the facility. A very interesting place that brought back a lot of fond memories of the past. And we had 3 new medal winners! Kathy Cue, Mary Cumming, and Linda Boeckner tried on the heavy hardware and posed for a picture on the winners platform.
