The HUB is a non-profit here in Lincoln that supports youth aging out of the Foster Care system and/or youth with little or no family support. The major emphasis of the HUB is to help youth through pursuing their education, future employment and unwavering support to achieve their goals.
One of the HUB’s projects is the Christmas Stockings project for youth. Handmade stockings are filled with gifts for each participating youth. Capital City Kiwanis volunteers Kathy Que, Marilyn Napier and Mindy Vyhnalek helped stuff the stockings with books, gift cards, art supplies, hats, gloves, snacks, etc. 15 Stockings were assembled for youth in detention, 50 stockings for youth and numerous smaller stocking for the children of HUB youth. The stockings are handed out at a party on Tuesday, Dec 16th.

FOSTER CARE CLOSET
VOLUNTEERS
This year the Foster Care Closet's budget was cut nearly 50% when funding through a state contract was discontinued in June. As a result, the FCC was left to operate with a $364,000 deficit. One step they are taking to lessen this shortfall is mailing approximately 600 hand-written cards to previous donors, asking them to consider donating financially to the FCC. On December 8, seven CCK members (Linda Boeckner, Sandi Lewis, Marilyn Napier, Cheryl Ross, Marilyn Scheinost, Sandy Scheinost and Mindy Vyhnalek) wrote approximately 140 cards to help with their effort to continue serving thousands of foster care children across Nebraska.
FOSTER CARE CLOSET
HATS AND GLOVES DRIVE
December is a busy month, but CCK members stepped forward to support the 2025 Hats and Gloves Drive for the Foster Care Closet, hosted by the YCPO Committee. Two dates, December 2 and December 16, were chosen to collect donations. The last Foster Care Closet Mobile Closet in 2025 was held just before CCK's December service event, so 37 hats and 50 sets of gloves were delivered on December 8 to help them stock the mobile closet for that event. December 16th club members donated additional hats and gloves, as well as financially. The grand total of the drive......140 hats and gloves for the Foster Care Closet. Thank you, CCK Club members!

DECEMBER EAST HIGH
KEY CLUB ACTIVITIES
Our East High Key Club had a short month as due to the school calendar and finals, they only had one meeting in December. For that meeting, we were shown a review of Key Club semester activities, enjoyed snacks, and decorated Meals on Wheels bags. In December, 84 decorated bags were delivered to MOW bringing the years total thus far to 707 bags.
Members were still busy in December—a total of fourteen members rang bells for the Salvation Army during four different shifts. Also, three members helped to serve at the annual Christmas brunch at the Peoples City Mission Shelter. Four members volunteered at the Eighth Grade Information Night at East High on December 18. And, we look forward to seeing what the next semester will bring!
