It was yet another great year for our Service Leadership Programs (SLP). On Tuesday, April 28, we hosted the officers and advisers of our SLP clubs to join us for some pizza, cookies, and fruit and an opportunity to share what the accomplished this school year. The Pyrtle K-Kids Club was represented by only one member, Pearl, but her family and the faculty sponsor, Julie Dohman, also came. The East High Key Club was represented by 5 of its officers and their nationally award winning faculty sponsor, Sarah Staples Farmer. It was a very enjoyable evening.
SPARTAN VILAGE DRIVE
Lincoln East High School students in need of food, clothing and hygiene items can find them at Spartan Village thanks to the generosity of CCK members. Two drives asking for donations in these three priority areas resulted in 240 items being delivered to Lincoln East by Marilyn Scheinost. Mac and Cheese, Soup, Granola Bars, Sweatpants, Socks, Underwear, Toothbrushes, Deodorant, Body Wash, etc. are a few of the articles that will be a welcomed sight for students in need.
IRV OMTVEDT
Irvin T. Omtvedt, age 90, of Lincoln, NE passed away on April 6, 2026. A celebration of life was held on Friday, April 24, 2026. Irv had a very successful career in agricultural science at several universities before ending up at UNL and retiring with high distinction. He was very devoted to his wife and family, but he also loved being in Kiwanis. Over the years as he moved with his career, he also moved his Kiwanis membership to the nearest club. Irv was the ultimate service leader, trainer, friend, and supporter during his many years in Kiwanis. Even though Irv was no longer able to be an active member, his guidance and devotion to Capital City Kiwanis, and Kiwanis in general, will be greatly missed.
