Eleven enthusiastic CCK members selected 216 books at the Barnes and Noble Bookstore on O Street to make the 2025 Harvest of Books Campaign a success! Mary Cumming, Joe James, Sandi Lewis, Marilyn Napier, Marilyn Scheinost, Sandy Scheinost, Cheryl Ross, Al Vyhnalek, and Mindy Vyhnalek selected their books the morning of October 6. Lois Mayo and Kathy Prochaska-Cue couldn't help that day so they chose their books earlier. Participants recalled memories of their favorite childhood books, as well as books they had given their children and grandchildren, as they shared their love of reading with carefully selected 1st and 2nd grade books for young readers in Lincoln.

FOSTER CARE CLOSET
Five Capital City Kiwanis volunteers showed up at the Foster Care Closet on Monday, October 27, eager to get together for the group's monthly service event. Sandi Lewis, Marilyn Scheinost, Sandy Scheinost, Mindy Vyhnalek and Cheryl Ross volunteered for 2 hours learning a new sorting process, setting up a production line, and getting to work on racks and boxes of girls and boys pajamas (an enjoyable change from sorting underwear). Mixed in with work was conversation about football, volleyball, holiday plans and family events. If are interested in joining the group, please contact Cheryl Ross or Mindy Vyhnalek.
The new Foster Care Closet trailer is ready for action! It will travel to towns across the state to help clothe children in need.

K-KIDS UPDATE
The Pyrtle K-Kids held officer elections at their October meeting. The votes were close and they ended up with Co-Presidents again this year! But we have done that before and it was great! They made plans for the November 7th "Hats On" fundraiser. The students are allowed to wear a hat to school, but must purchase a sticker for one dollar that is put on the hat. The proceeds will be used to purchase toys for needy families this Holiday season. Toy shopping will be done at the next meeting on Nov 11th.
